What Is The Best Way To Sell A Used Car In The UK?

If you’ve clicked on this article, you may be planning on selling your car, but what’s the best way to go about it? I’m Alexander Powell a car expert from Cheltenham and I will guide you through the best possible ways to sell a car within the UK.

Selling a Car Within The UK The Best Way

Starting off, it’s worth noting that you will get the most for your car if it is sold privately (approximately 10% — 15% extra), however, if you cannot or wish to not do this, the next best possible way is to sell it via a dealer part-exchange.

Selling To a Dealer

If you sell through a dealer, your car value will be sold for a little more than the trade price than if you outright sold it. Typically, the dealer may not be willing to negotiate over the part-exchange of the price, something you would sacrifice.

You can sell your car outright to a dealer and you will get the based car trade value, it’s a fairly quick and easy process to go through, if you want to cut the fluff.

Selling Privately

Selling a car privately is arguably the most time consuming process. The saying ‘time is money’ does go well when selling a car privately since you are more likely to get a better price.

To sell privately, you will need to;

  • Advertise the car you’re selling to potential buyers. This means by using ‘For Sale’ signs, get it printed in newspapers, place ads on websites, you name it, get the word out there. Or if you’re more younger and up to date with social media, Facebook marketplace is an easy and faster place to use than other traditional methods.
  • Describe your car thoroughly and correctly. No one wants to buy a car without knowing anything about it, let alone being sold out of the wrong product.
  • Manage contacts and leads often whilst turning up to potential viewings and appointments for your customer to test driving your car.

Selling Online Via Car Sites

There are many car buying websites on the internet that are more than happy to take the offer of your car.

The process is quite simple; you enter your car’s details through the website, then you will be contacted later. If you research extensively on which car selling retailer you want to use, you’ll be good to go, just make sure it’s good for your money. Once the form is completed, a car evaluation date will be booked and they will give your car a visual inspection and test for any possible faults.

The downside to this is that you may have to pay a fee for the administration of these services.

Selling Via Car Auctions

Auctions are a hassle-free quick way of selling your car, this can be online or in person. The negative to this is that there will be no guarantee that your car will reach your desired price, meaning you may get less, meaning you would have to try again in another auction. Or, if you’re lucky, you may get more than what you had reserved.

Most auctions take place within the motor vehicle area, so you may be lucky and reach a private buyer, so you can expect to receive more than going to a dealer.

I hope from this article you were able to decide which circumstance was best for you and if you have any questions be sure to contact me.
